Artists booked for fall dates

On September 16, 2012, New Jersey music lovers will be able to enjoy the music of New York free jazz saxophonist Blaise Siwula. Blaise performs on alto and tenor sax and clarinet. As Ken Waxman wrote in The New York City Jazz Record “Especially animated is Siwula, who on a piece such as ‘Toy Box’ opens the container to reveal staccato tongue slaps, balanced reed bites and overblowing into every corner of the package. At the same time he isn’t averse to ending a series of irregularly accented stutters with a joking quote from ‘Heart and Soul’.” You can hear samples of Blaise’s playing at http://www.blaisesiwula.com/.

October 21 is our occasion to host hyperactive NJ musicians Michael Durek and Mark Weinberg as Ping Pong. Ping Pong has a new ambient electronic EP dropping any day, but in the mean time you can hear Mike and Mark at these pages: Cloud Cloud (Michael Durek) and Trinitron (Mark Weinberg). You can read more about them here.

The fall season will wrap up on November 18 with an a performance by Ian Smits and other members of the legendary New Jersey improvisors Monkeyworks. The NY Times has described Monkeyworks’ music as “jazz-meets-African-meets-electronic music”. We’re discussing a live improvisation to accompany silent films, a performance niche that is a Monkeyworks specialty.

All performances will begin with a set by NJ avant-jazz group ArtCrime.
